Probably you have experienced being humiliated due to your bad breath. And you know what, it is not good to be humiliated that way. Well, on my part, I would rather be humiliated because I fell to the ground, I missed a basketball free throw, or I was late on a meeting. But having a bad breath? Well, no way!

If you feel like you belong to the 25 to 30 percent of the world’s population suffering from halitosis, you have to do something about it despite the fact that this condition doesn’t require emergency. Your socialization is affected. You will find it hard to talk to someone closely because he or she might smell something foul from your mouth. It is a painful truth, but society finds it unacceptable to have a halitosis.

And sometimes you do not know about your condition. You may think that there is nothing wrong with your breath until someone covers her nose and you wonder why. You need to know your condition. And you need to accept that you have a halitosis so that you will be able to do something about it. Mind you, it is good to have fresh breath.

If you have this pitiful condition, it is good that you are in this page. Right now, I will give you some practical and easy ways to fight bad breath. Halitosis should not be with you forever.

Remove your denture at night. One of the sanctuaries for bacteria is your denture. The idea is you need to remove it and clean at night to avoid bacterial build-up. According to Dr. William M. Litaker, DDS, Dentist, “Dentures collect plaque and calculus (tartar) just like your natural teeth. They need to be cleaned daily to remove plaque and calculus. At home, dentures can be cleaned with over the counter cleaners and gentle bushing with a brush. When the plaque has hardened to calculus it will need to be removed by a dentist. Halitosis can also be caused by plaque on your tongue.

Your tongue needs to be brushed daily also. If you have untreated cavities in your teeth, the bacteria in the cavities can cause your breath to smell. Acid reflux and sinus drainage can also cause halitosis.”

Dentures, just like your teeth, should be cleaned as well, because it is one of the main cause of halitosis. Get rid of bacteria and you will surely stay away from halitosis.

Drink plenty of water. Aside from the several health benefits of drinking water, it is also a way to prevent halitosis. When you wake up in the morning, it should be your ritual to drink water to avoid preserving your morning breath the whole day. The thing is, a morning breath can last all day if there is poor intake of water to moist the mouth.

By keeping the mouth moist, the food particles and bacteria that cause bad breath will be washed away. You should keep your mouth moist because dehydration causes bad breath.

Check your breath first by means of your palm and smell it. Are you happy with the smell? If not, drink water and see the result.

Don’t forget to brush your teeth after meal. Well, if you forget to brush your teeth after meal what will you expect? The food particles in there will breed bacteria that can cause bad breath. If someone smells your breath only to smell the food that you previously eat, probably an hour or two, it is an indication of bad breath already because it is not your natural, fresh breath.

Don’t forget to brush your teeth no matter how busy you are with your work or studies. You should find a way to do this not just to avoid bad breath but to avail several health benefits of doing this. You can buy the right toothbrush for you, depending on your teeth.

Replace your toothbrush every 3 months. Look at your toothbrush. How long have you been using that? Many dental experts recommend replacing your toothbrush every 3 – 4 months. You should replace your toothbrush because it is already worn out. The direction of the toothbrush bristles is different already and not so effective in cleaning your teeth. And you know already what happens to your teeth when it is not cleaned well.

If you would like to know when to change toothbrush, you need to consider the following:

  • The bristles – check the bristles’ direction if it is still the same, and the color if it hasn’t changed. You can ask your dentist with this.
  • The feel – can you still feel your toothbrush when you brush your teeth? Well, if not, it is about time to change.
  • The time – let me ask you the question again: “How long have you been using your toothbrush?” Well, your answer to that gives you an idea whether you will find a new one or not.

As much as possible, replace your toothbrush every 3 months, especially if it not functioning well already.

Have a regular dental checkup and cleaning. Your dentist can help you a lot with your halitosis if you will just set a regular appointment. Just like your eye, nose, heart, or any organ in your body, your teeth also needs checkup and cleaning.

By regular checkup, your dentist will be able to know, aside from halitosis, the several conditions of your teeth. And by cleaning, your teeth will be maintained to its whiteness and being free from germs.

These two things are essential to getting rid of halitosis. Let an expert help you with your problem. Set a regular appointment.

Chew “chewable” with antiseptic qualities, citric acid, and chlorophyll. Well, you might be wondering about these things but let me explain. Halitosis-causing bacteria can be prevented by chewable with antiseptic qualities such as cloves and fennel seed. Orange, lemon, and other citrus foods have citric acid that stimulates salivary glands, necessary for fighting bad breath. And chlorophyll neutralizes odors which is common on green plants. With this, you need to chew mint, basil, or cilantro.

By considering the “chewable” mentioned above, you will be able to eliminate bad breath caused by halitosis.

Try mouthwash. When you go to the department store, you will be able to see several brands of mouthwash that you can try. If you have purchased your mouthwash already, it is recommended for you to try using it by rinsing your mouth in 30 seconds. By doing so, you will be able to fight bacteria. Do this every day and see the results.

Do not take for granted your halitosis because it has an effect on your life. Your career and relationship might be affected by this small thing. Aside from that, your self-confidence will also decrease knowing the fact that you have halitosis.

Why stay on that situation when you can do something about it? Make it a habit of improving your breath by the things mentioned above. You will not be disappointed you did a great job for your mouth.
