Beat Heartburn Fast With These Tips

Before anything else, let me just clarify what heartburn is. Well, you might say that your heart is on fire, but that is wrong. In fact, it is not really your heart which is on fire but your esophagus due to the acids released from your stomach through the process called “reflux.”

When this happens, you will feel a burning sensation between the stomach and the neck. And according to health experts, people who are eating too much and too fast can experience heartburn. So, it is recommended for everyone to eat with moderation at a moderate speed.

You should not take for granted this kind of situation. The thing is persistent heartburn can give you an idea that a significant disease is in your body. For worst heartburn conditions, you may see your doctor. But for now, let me just give you some tips that you can try to avoid experiencing heartburn.

Drink milk. This may sound odd to you, but according to health experts, drinking milk can cut the acid and decrease heartburn. If you can still go to the kitchen to prepare a glass of milk to drink, do this. Also, you can ask for help from someone at home. Well, instead of suffering from your heartburn, why not drink a glass of milk? Give it a try.

Try antacid. Whether I liquid or tablet form, antacid is an excellent medicine to take to fight heartburn. You can buy this one through over-the-counter. Normally, you are required to take a dosage every six hours, just like other medicines. On the other hand, you have to be careful with your antacid intake because you may suffer from diarrhea or constipation when overdosed.

Elevate your head. When you are lying on your bed, try to elevate your head. This way, you will be able to protect your esophagus from acid attack. Let the gravity bring the acid down. You can pile several pillows below your head when you sleep. You will feel relief after a few minutes.

No to waterbed. Well, this is not a good idea. You have to elevate your head when lying on your bed to protect your esophagus, right? I have mentioned that already. Once you use waterbed, you will lie flat on the bed. Because of that, acid reflux is possible. Just say no to waterbed. You need to elevate your head.

Don’t sleep after eating. After eating, it is a good idea to take a rest first. In fact, it is also advisable to have a few meters or a kilometre walk for digestion. After two to three hours, you can go to sleep if you want to. The gastric contents of your stomach is still active digesting after eating that is why when you sleep already, you have a higher tendency to experience heartburn. If you cannot go out of your house, you can just watch television but do not lie down. It is even better to watch while standing. Just don’t lie down.

Loosen your belt. The reason why you have to loosen your seatbelt is in order for the acid not to go back to the esophagus. As much as possible, do not wear tight clothing around the waist. If you are wearing a tight jeans, you might want to change that. Just let loose and let go of those acids. You will feel relief and you will be able to avoid heartburn.

Release fat. By merely looking at a fat person, you already have an idea about its organs. Fat people may have more fats in their organs. And fats compete for free spaces in the stomach which can make acids to go north. You have to be aware of your fats. If you are experiencing heartburn often, you might have so many fats in your stomach. With that, you have to adjust with your diet and physical activities in order to get release fats.

Exercise. Most health experts believe that people who are prone to doing exercises rarely experience heartburn. This is because exercise can improve digestion. So, for a person who always stretches his muscle and lets his sweat come out of his pores, there is no room for heartburn. You have to evaluate what you are doing daily that is why you are experiencing heartburn. If you are a couch potato, it’s about time to stand and walk even for a minute and go back to what you are doing. Exercise more and distance yourself from heartburn.

Avoid fried and fatty foods. Well, you have to choose what you are eating. As much as possible, eat foods that are not fatty. And if you can cook your food aside from frying, it is better. There is a large amount of fats that you can get from fatty foods and oils from fried foods. Fats and oils can contribute to heart burn because they will consume a space on the stomach. With this, the acid will go north into your esophagus.

Avoid soda. If you are fond of drinking soda, it is about time to stop or take it easy from this activity. Sodas contain gas that causes acid to roll back into the esophagus. If you have a choice, it is safer to drink water for it neutralizes acid in the stomach.

Avoid cigarettes. The nicotine content of cigarette causes heartburn. It is due to the fact that the valves in between the stomach and esophagus are irritated by this substance. Smokers suffer from heartburn but most of them take this for granted as if it’s normal.
